Project to Clean the Oceans Kicks Off

September 12, 2018

Founded in 2013, The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization whose mission is to clean up the ocean, which is polluted with vast amount of plastic debris. Plastic pollution in the oceans damages the environment, harms the global economy, and leads to public health concerns. The Ocean Cleanup has developed a floating system that moves with the ocean currents, capturing plastic debris. It is estimated that The Ocean Cleanup will be able to remove 50% of the plastic debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating island of trash twice the size of Texas, in just five years. Check out the launch of the system below!
